Spiritual Congruency

One of the most important things to me is to align as much as I can with the highest level aspect of my soul and monad. I call this feeling of alignment with my Source energy – spiritual congruency. The monad is the aspect of ourselves that is most connected to the Creator and GOD.

Congruency is a mathematical term meaning geometric shapes are congruent if the two shapes both have the same size and shape. So I want my personality/physical body self to have as similar a size and shape to my monad/true/authentic self as I can. In a way spiritual congruency, to me at least, really boils down to how true we are to who we truly are. It is about being authentic and real which is one of my core values.

I began working on spiritual congruency after meeting people online. As people who hang out in chatrooms and social media sites know, the chat room self that chats with you is often quite different than the personality self that you meet physically which I personally find very disconcerting. I became aware of this pattern after meeting people I really enjoyed chatting with on-line but found much less enjoyable in real life.

And that prompted me to take a hard look at areas in my life where I was different online or at work than I was at home or with friends and family. It was a very interesting journey to me and I found out a lot about myself from this exploration which is why it is now a blog post.

One of the things I try to be aware of is how aligned I feel to the highest level aspect of my monad and soul at any given moment of time.  I aspire to operate from that place and level all the time but I have been working on this for several years now and I am still am not where I would like to be on this one.

I first became aware of the non-congruency issue when I was working for the State of Colorado during the day and doing my spiritual healing work on the side at nights and on weekends. I felt that I was living in two different worlds and one of the main reasons I began working for myself full time as a healer was to heal and release this split I felt. It was a very dysfunctional space to operate from and I felt a strong pull in both directions that was very uncomfortable. I felt much more compassion and understanding for Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde after this -although I, of course, was not as an extreme example.

I really wanted to feel more whole and complete and I feel that spiritual congruency is one measure I can tune into that helps me move in the right direction. The more aligned I am with the highest level aspect of my soul and monad that I am the more congruent all levels of my life feel to me energetically.

I really feel that children operate from a space of spiritual congruency with who they truly are and live more authentically at least until they begin to be taught and buy into mass consciousness. It takes a lot of energy to be non-congruent since this is not our natural state of consciousness.

So I challenge each of you to look at the different roles you play in your life and see how aligned energetically you are to your highest level aspect of your monad and soul.  And if you find that you are not feeling very congruent, I encourage you to begin devoting some time and energy toward nurturing that alignment.

How to Handle Difficult People: Spiritual Teacher or Downright Toxic?

I was talking to a healer buddy of mine for over an hour today and it was such an interesting conversation that I felt inspired to create a blog post. My friend is a very empathic and gifted healer. Like most healers I know (including myself), he is a people pleaser so that combination of healer/empathic/people pleaser means setting good, strong, clear energetic boundaries on people he interacts with is very important to his health and well being.

Anyway my buddy had dinner last night with an old friend and another person he had never met before. My buddy didn’t resonate with the new person at all. He felt he was very negative and so my buddy basically disengaged from the conversation and disconnected energetically from the person. Twelve hours later and after a nights rest and he was still disturbed about the encounter. He was upset with himself that he was not more compassionate with the individual and was feeling guilt and regret about the way he handled the encounter and dealt with the person.

Any new person who enters your life and disturbs you the next day is someone to look closely at so we explored this situation in great depth – this is the executive summary version.

First of all, I NO LONGER CHOOSE TO BEAT UP ON MYSELF for how I handled any encounters or interactions with other people NO MATTER WHAT. Second, I try not to place labels on it or to judge or criticize myself as being selfish or not compassionate in how I handle a difficult person. I also try not to revert to guilt or regret at any time. If I feel guilt and regret, I look for what “I should do” or “ought to do” statements – often from early childhood – are operating and clear them out.

When I encounter a difficult person or attract one into my life, I usually drop what I am doing and focus on what is going on energetically. The first thing I do is ask the Creator to heal and ameliorate any karma I may have with that person or that person may have with me. A lot of time this one step alone clears up the whole incident and I go merrily on my way without interacting again with the person.

If that does not resolve the issue, I go to phase 2 and ask what is that person reflecting or mirroring back to me that I need to look at within myself and heal. Then I work with what comes up and clear it out.

If this does not resolve it, I ask is there a hidden wakeup call in this. Is there something going on that is seeking to gain my attention. In this case, my buddy has an old “friend” in another state who left his life several years ago but now is coming back to FL to live. This person is probably not a divine ideal person for my buddy to hang out with and the new person is very much like this friend. So in a way this encounter served my buddy to warn him to look at his relationship with his old friend and decide how he wants to handle him in the future.

Please note that the encounter with the difficult person is serving the highest good of my buddy even if he does not realize or appreciate it.

If there is no karma, no mirror, no wakeup call then the other possibility is that the difficult person reminds me of someone from my past like a parent, sibling or friend that I need to forgive. Usually the people we have karma with are also the people we need to forgive as well.

The really interesting thing to me for mastery is how should we handle difficult people. And to me that is often a combination of where we are on the path and whether or not the difficult person is a teacher or a toxic. The guiding principle is to be compassionate with yourself.

When I first realized what a strong empath I was, it really changed how I interacted with people. I began looking at the people around me and I made changes. People who I did not enjoy being with or who I LOL judged as lowering my vibration – I cut out of my life quite ruthlessly. It was something I needed to do at that time because I did not have the shielding and filters and protective mechanisms I needed to interact with them.

I was taking on other people’s stuff right and left and the only way I knew how to handle it was to eliminate them from my life. It created a huge amount of stress on my relationship with my ex who did not understand this and thought I was being extremely selfish by no longer doing stuff with my old low vibration buddies. And I did not feel it was selfish at all and still don’t. If I have any regrets at all it would be that I realized earlier in my life that I was so empathic and been more discerning at an earlier age as to who I hung out with. LOL and if I had would I have been with that ex who like all my exes is a great spiritual teacher for me.

Any way – that was sixteen years ago and today I approach difficult people very differently. I have learned over the years that a lot of my growth and evolution comes from difficult people. One of my biggest spiritual teachers was an old boss of mine who I could not cut out of my life. And to be honest, if I could have cut her out of my life and kept my job I would have.

There is a big difference between Difficult People who are Spiritual Teachers and Difficult People who Cross the Line and have become Toxic. Teacher Difficult People bring up stuff and make us explore areas that are not comfortable but they provide a way for us to clear, heal, transmute and release dysfunctional patterns and programs. This ultimately helps us to grow, evolve, expand and raise our vibration.

Toxic Difficult People are another type of creature altogether. Toxic people bring up so much stuff and are so negative that they can overpower a person energetically and lower their vibration. And if I see a toxic person enter my life, I start to run and run fast and hard.

Some of Bill’s Favorite Relationship Quotes, Part 2

“Don’t Take on Other People’s Stuff!  We all create stuff and attract stuff into our life to learn from every day. This is fine for without our stuff, we wouldn’t grow. But when we get involved with another person’s stuff, watch out! One of the reasons that it is so important to create healthy and strong energetic boundaries with other people – especially our family, friends and clients is because it is so very easy for us to adopt and claim another individual’s stuff for our own.”

“There are three ways I get myself into trouble with relationships. The first way is that I feel the suffering of others so intensely at times that I want to rush in and save and rescue them – often because I don’t want to experience their pain second-hand. The second way I get into trouble is that I focus more on the potential of who a person can become rather than who they actually are right now. And thirdly I always assume that other people view the world exactly like I do and I am a very unique being energetically.”

“People are so funny about things like judging. Some of my gay friends get very agitated about society and the religious right judging them or rant and rave about the fundamentalists who oppose gay marriage. And yet in the very next breath, they will criticize drag queens or lambaste bisexuals. But I suspect that all judging of others originates because somewhere inside ourselves we judge ourselves. We usually have an inner critic or judger or inner parent and often we need to heal and forgive this aspect or sub-personality of our self before we can let go of the pattern of judging others. Gossiping about others is often a more subtle form of judgment.”

“Subconsciously, we all trust our first impressions and realize how important they are. When we meet someone for the first time, what happens is that our energy fields mesh together and they exchange information. If our energy fields complement one another in any way, we begin to feel that we like this person and we want to further the relationship. If a karmic relationship is involved, we feel more strongly drawn to that person even if we don’t like them. When we feel neutral about someone or instantly dislike them, usually our energy fields don’t match and we can learn nothing from them. For example, when an old soul meets a baby one, usually they won’t like each other because with such dissimilar soul ages, there is little opportunity to either teach or to learn. This is how we draw into our lives the people we are meant to share them with.”

“Empathic people are more likely to be people-pleasers than non-empathic people. Empaths pick up – often subconsciously – or are bombarded energetically by other people’s feelings and thoughts. Often empathic people and sensitive souls change their energy in response to the signals they pick up energetically from others. Almost all healers, light/love workers and starseeds (highly evolved beings from other time space continuums) are empathic which means that they are much more likely than others to fall into the trap of people-pleasing – often without realizing what they are doing. It was a major AH HA moment for me twenty odd years ago when I realized I would get angry and upset not because I personally was angry and upset but because a co-worker two doors down the hall from me was angry and upset.”

“A big part of living authentically with integrity for me at least is being spiritually congruent. I strive to be authentically who I am no matter where I am or who I am with or what I am doing.  I used to live like a chameleon – constantly reconfiguring my energy and how I presented myself to others to blend in and to make other people feel comfortable. Often I would change my energy to appear like what I felt others needed or wanted me to be. This is a form of people-pleasing and giving my power away to others. When I stopped doing this, I found that my personal energy level kept steady and even increased when I was around other people whereas before it used to drop when I was with a group of people.”

When you get emotionally triggered by someone or something, you can either react to it or respond to it. Most people react. Masters respond. Like most things - It’s a choice. Each time I am triggered is an opportunity for me to grow and expand IF I take the time and do the inner work to identify, look at and heal the underlying cause. Almost always when I get triggered it is about a shadow aspect of myself that I need to accept, embrace and smother in self love.“

“When you pray for someone to get well, focus and accentuate the positive not the negative. Focus on what is right with them rather than on what the nature of the physical imbalance, weaknesses, illness or disease state appears to be. Pray for them to be restored to the state of vibrant, radiant, perfect health which is their natural, innate, inherent state as child of GOD.”

Pitfalls on the Spiritual Path

I have been on the spiritual path for almost twenty years and it has been a lot like Simon Says! You take one leap forward and two baby steps backward and one giant step forward, etc. But these are a few of the hazards I have encountered on my journey. I share my experiences with the hope that you do not have to go there do that one like I did or if you do find yourself in that space you are aware of the pattern so you can extricate yourself from it as soon as possible.

Ego/Arrogance: When I began on the spiritual path, I really did not have any role models. Most of my family and friends were on a more traditional path. Over the years, more and more people have woken up and there are a lot more energetic role models now than there were then and this is a good thing. But a year or two into my journey, I began to realize that I was very different. It felt like I was wired or configured differently on the inside than most people and for several months it really went to my head. Although I did not change my outer behavior so much for a while I felt quite superior on the inside to most people. And then I realized that if I really was that if I was so evolved why on the world did I was I stuck living on Earth. This thought pulled me down to the ground in an instant. Today, I view everyone I encounter as a spiritual teacher. This is one of the few things I have done in this life that I am embarrassed about.

Preoccupation with Past Lives: When I first learned about past lives, I was quite intrigued about it and I spent a month meditating on insights from past lives. And then I realized that what happened in the past only really mattered to me to the extent that it impacted my current incarnation. I realized that it was a distraction from focusing on stuff that was going on all around me in the NOW which I needed to do. So I let go of my preoccupation with the past in general and focused my awareness on the now. I was so happy when Eckhardt Tolle wrote the book about The Power of the Now because for the first time, many people realized how silly it is to live in the past or the future or to get distracted out of a compulsive need to learn about their past lives. Laughing out loud: I have had the pleasure of meeting several people who claimed that they were Mary Magdalene in a prior life…

Giving Your Power Away to Healers, Psychics, Channels, Gurus: In the New Age movement, I have known several people who rant and rave about the horrors of mass consciousness and world religions and the Western approach to medicine and how terrible it is that people give away their power so much to society at large, ministers and doctors. And the next day I see them giving away their power to psychics, channels and alternative healing. All I have to say about this is BE YOUR OWN HEALER and BE YOUR OWN GURU. I cringe when people refer to me as a spiritual master and quite a few of my clients have tried to give their power away to me. But you know I really have quite enough power of my own, I really don’t need or want anyone else’s!

Discernment: One of the main reasons why I blog and tweet so much is that I really don’t want to write a book with lots of words (healing art books are a very different thing). But if I ever do write a book, it may very well be about the importance of discernment. Discernment begins by honoring your inner guidance and wake up calls and being very careful before you DO anything to always ask “Is this aligned with my highest good?”

Empathy: It was such a revelation to me fourteen years ago when I realized that the reason I would get upset and angry at work was because one of my co-workers was on an emotional roller coaster and I was taking on her stuff. I had no idea up to then how sensitive I was to energy and that I could be influenced so strongly by the pain and emotional trauma of another person. And over the years, my empathy has grown by leaps and bounds and I have to find new ways to clear stuff out as it arises before I get overwhelmed. And over the years I increasingly take on some of the planetary energies as well so it can be quite intense at times. Thankfully I have been able to download some very powerful tools, like the Universal Clearing Profile, to assist me. I feel that we all are impacted energetically by the energy of others and most of us take on some of other people’s stuff (especially healers, light workers and star-seeds). It is very important for all of us to find ways to go through life without taking on other people’s issues because when we do this, we not only take on more stuff for ourselves but it also does not help the other person at all.

Saving and Rescuing Others: As a healer, I always want for people around me to be as well and whole as possible. One of the biggest temptations I face is that I often want to dash in and save others (especially family, friends and clients) rather than viewing them as great masters who have all that they need within to heal themselves. Every time I attempt to save someone, I get hammered by my soul. It is one of the most challenging spiritual lessons for me and although I do this less often now, every now and then I have a weak moment where I get suckered into the past patterns. So this is a lesson that I am still learning..

New Rules of Success for Self Employed Entrepreneurs

Last week I was thinking about how Google inspires everyone who markets online to operate in a certain way to continue to do well in search engine results. If you do not play by Google’s rules, which tend to favor high quality content, people will not be able to find you when they search using your industry’s key words. The huge influence of Google has reshaped what you have to do to succeed on the Internet.

When my father began working in the 1950’s, it was relatively easy to succeed. You largely just had to show up and be present. He lived in an era of tremendous and continuous prosperity for America. This situation continued for many years.

As more and more baby-boomers began working, the idea of success morphed so that you not only had to show up and be present, but also you had to be fairly good at what you did in order to move up the organization chart.

The combination of showing up, being present and being good at what you did was the basis of most people’s success up until the recession of 2009. A lot of businesses and people who followed the old rules of success ended up going out of business because they did not have strategic business expertise they needed to survive. It no longer is enough to be good at what you do; you also have to be fairly good at business now to survive.

With the advent of the Internet and millions of people spending a lot of time on social media, to succeed now you need to show up, be present, be good at what you do, be good at business and be connected to lots of other people.

I do feel that people who are very good at what they do often work for people who are very connected to other people. In the HGTV show “Selling New York,” the realtors profiled always stress the importance of relationships and the need to advise people what is in the best interest of the customer even if it costs them a sale in the present moment.

When I was building my network of experts on SelfGrowth.com, I found that the experts on happiness and the law of attraction generally had a MUCH larger network than experts in other fields. This makes perfect sense to me since numerous studies have tied happiness to a sense of being connected to others and communities and obviously it is easier for the law of attraction to help you if you are connected and networked to lots of other people.

Bonus Points for Success

The universe has always given bonus points to people who:

  • Set a clear intent upon what they wish to accomplish;
  • Are action oriented;
  • Give outstanding value to their customers;
  • Focus their time and energy like a laser upon achieving their goals and
  • Persevere until they get their desired results.

Some of Bill’s Favorite Relationship Quotes, Part 1

“You don’t forgive others to let them off the hook. You forgive yourself and others so that you can clear, heal, transmute and dissolve the emotional wounding, trauma, harm and damage that close your heart.”

“Release the need for drama! The soap opera aspects of our lives are like the waves that agitate the ocean’s surface without changing its inherent nature. The dramas in our lives appear much fiercer than they really are. They cannot upset us permanently unless we believe them and act upon this belief.”

“It is important to compassionately acknowledge the stuff others experience in such a way that we don’t claim it for ourselves. When we take over someone else’s stuff, even if they want us to, we deprive them of the experiences they need the most and ones that they have worked hard to create for themselves.”

“Self love is perhaps my core value. The universe reflects back to us what we radiate out and if we do not radiate out a high level of self love we almost certainly are not going to like the landscape of our inner and outer lives. I firmly believe that self love is the cornerstone to create a life that works.”

Most people on this planet operate from the victim/rescuer/observer role. This behavior perpetuates duality consciousness and places us on an emotional roller coaster that only the ego enjoys. We always have the choice to stop playing this game but it takes a certain amount of courage to do so.”

“Kindness is one of my core values. Whenever I meet someone for the first time or begin to date someone, one of the things I look at is how kind is the other person. I also look at how they well or not so well they get along with their mothers and how they treat their and other people’s pets. I value the time and energy I dedicate to developing friendships and I do not choose to hang out with people who are not kind. It probably will not end well. And I run hard and fast if I find myself hanging out with someone who abuses others or themselves.”

When you get emotionally triggered by someone or something, you can either react to it or respond to it. Most people react. Masters respond. Like most things - It’s a choice. I used to get triggered all the time and I used to get upset and hate these events. However, now (for the most part) I welcome emotional triggers because often this is the only clue that there is an area of my life that is not healed and cleared. I grow a lot each time I get triggered if I take the time and do the inner work to identify, look at and heal the underlying cause. “

“The biggest difference I notice in friends who get married twice is that usually in the first marriage, either one or both partners felt that they could secretly change another person. By the second or third time around though, usually both partners are wiser and realize that the only person who can change their partner is their partner and only that person. Really it is so exhausting and so futile to try to change someone else and so relatively easy and effortless to change yourself that you have to wonder why people try to change others. If I get upset by other people, I focus on changing myself not them. This way is SO MUCH EASIER.”

When you get upset, angry, irritated or annoyed with someone, it NEVER is about them and it ALWAYS is about you.”

Some of Bill’s Favorite Spiritual Growth Quotes, Part 1

“Balance is so very important for people on the spiritual path. Many people I have observed on the path focus so intently on spiritual growth that they ignore the needs of their bodies; experience out of control emotions; and operate from the ego mind. We are here to ground the energy of Spirit into our body, emotions and mind as well as to evolve the soul.”

“Mastery is an inner process of transformation from the inside out. Your outer world is the external out-picturing of your internal thoughts, feelings and attitudes. If you want to change your outer world, you have to change your inner one first. There is no other way.”

“Don’t Take on Other People’s Problems! Human beings are inherently powerful Creators which means that we create stuff and attract stuff into our life to learn from every day. This is fine for without our stuff, we wouldn’t grow. But when we get involved with another person’s stuff, watch out! It often is very easy for us to adopt and claim another individual’s stuff for our own.”

“A lot of people know that their lives don’t function very well but they don’t know what is wrong. If you fall into this category, buy a notebook that can fit into your coat or purse and jot down every thought that you have about yourself, said and unsaid, for one month. At the end of the month, read what you have jotted down. What most people find is that most of their negative thoughts fall into several categories, and these are the areas that they need to work with.”

“When people in a crisis learn that they create every aspect of their lives, they often recoil in shock and horror. Everything that we experience is created by ourselves but not necessarily by our conscious minds. Most of our life experiences are created unconsciously either by the subconscious mind or the super-conscious mind or soul. Part of the spiritual growth process involves taking conscious control over the areas of our lives that are on automatic pilot.”

“Each day I try to focus on three things. I try to see everything I experience as something that I created in order to grow spiritually from. I also try to see the Christ/Love/Light/Spirit within everyone. And I often ask myself, how can I serve the people I encounter each day.  Living in the now is also important to me.”

“Mastery is largely about taking responsibility for and becoming more aware and conscious about every aspect of their lives. Part of the spiritual growth process involves taking conscious control over the areas of our lives that are on automatic pilot.”

“Mastery in many ways is the art of making good, wise and prudent choices. When masters don’t like what they are creating externally, they look at and revise their internal choices. Masters know that they create their life and they take and assume responsibility for their life and co-creations, and choose a different reality when they don’t like their current one.”

“Two of our greatest gifts are our time and energy and what we do with that time and energy is important. When we choose to focus our time and energy on personal and spiritual growth then the universe supports us in this endeavor via the Law of Attraction. Eventually as long as we maintain a strong focus on personal and spiritual growth, we develop a force field around us that magnetizes and energizes the process. The time and energy we dedicate to personal and spiritual growth becomes magnified a billion-fold by Spirit so that the process of personal and spiritual growth becomes effortless in many ways.”

Stop Beating Up on Yourself!

In my earlier years whenever I had a negative experience where I got hurt or wounded, I would look back on that event and beat up on myself for making a mistake.

But as I look back on these events now I realize that there really are no “mistakes.” Each of these events had a purpose behind it. I just wasn’t wise enough or did not have the expanded vision and perspective to comprehend the meaning behind those experiences.

In this incarnation I have been a dishwasher, economist, law clerk, paralegal, secretary, word processor, telemarketer, network systems administrator, program manager, project manager, Tier 3 Customer Support, buyer/purchasing agent, etc. and now I find myself being a healer, teacher and artist. And all these jobs have helped to get me where I am today…

I really believe that everything we do and everyone we meet helps or serves us in some way even if we do not feel that it does so at the time. Our souls guide our lives far more than we consciously realize.

However, I do wish that I had been kinder to myself when I was younger and less critical and less prone to beating up on myself. This truly never served me in any way but to get to share this wisdom with y’all. Laughing out loud!
